I brought a little NYC feel to my look today. Heels are pretty impossible unless they are chunky in the city. This is a bit of an issue for me as I am SUPER petite (aka SHORT) amongst these uber tall models that frolic through the city. I don't like to compare, or try to be something I am not. It is very important to be proud of yourself for who you are, but DAMN I love a good pair of heels. I feel confident in them and I like how it makes my legs look toned and OK TALLER. So..I found my solution, these flatform sneaks. Height without looking like I am trying too hard :)

So I am sure you have all seen the Stella McCartney ones $$$$. SO cute, just not budget friendly. I struggle spending a ton on shoes because I travel/walk non-stop and my items get trashed by the end of the season. I am sure you feel the same. So, as you can see here, I have these very Stella looking flatforms and I legit got them for under $100 bucks here (similar). I also paired them with a pair of jeans I got for under $30 and a top I got under $30. Oh and you probably see the ring around my purse and are thinking "is this some sort of Mansur or Chloe or other pricey Barney's like brand?", no girlfriends, I got this bag for under $30 as well.

I paired this look with a few of my higher end pieces to balance it out. My fanciful cateye sunglasses I am very much obsessed with and this perfect throwover plaid top (so LA and a mandatory addition to le closet).

Soaking In The Cali Sun

I have had a lot of FOMO not being in NYC lately. I miss it there tremendously. But this past week I have been soaking up the Cali sunshine and it is the only thing helping me with my post-NYC depression. Who would have thought that could be a thing? Will get into that in a later post, but for now want to focus on sunny LA days.

I got to bring out this absolutely gorgeous dress that I have had my eye on from Huxley & Harper. They have the cutest dresses and chokers and I am so glad they are based in OC. Perfect for when I want to the see the parental unit. I paired this dress with these fun gold mules, a muted bag, and round sunnies. I cannot wait to take this dress with me on a vacation. I am feeling total Capri/Positano, Mykonos or even Hawaii vibes! Now I need to actually plan a trip...

PS ARE YOU VOTING TODAY? I hope so :)

Okay so I felt like this post was extremely fitting given my current week. I honestly could list 100 things that annoyed me. This election, something silly at work (perhaps being on the road at 5AM this morning to get to a meeting), feeling like my friend was not being thoughtful of my feelings in a situation, missing my dinner partner (Eric being gone on the East Coast and Vegas) and feeling like I have been overeating and definitely not fitting in my halloween costume..lol oh and identity location crisis NY, LA or OC? Small world problems? ABSOLUTELY. But that is A-okay. People think that just because there are bigger issues in the world you are not allowed to have feelings. WRONG, it would be insane not to. Just in moderation. Like don't only sweat the small stuff and not care about the REAL big issues in life.

Personally, I am a sensitive person. I love the people in my life so much (including my colleagues!) that I bring them in like family. Sometimes it is a WONDERFUL thing as I have been able to grow some incredible friendships with people and sometimes people you bring close just suck and disappoint you a lot. Sometimes you realize that what you identify as being a good friend (or whatever your relationship is with that person) doesn't always align with that the other person thinks or is willing to give back. Basically if you are not a ride or die/loyal for life friend, fam member or lover...then bye! HAHA no but really, you are saving yourself from heartache and future disappointment. You can gradually let go of a person too, sometimes when it is abrupt, it sucks for both parties.

Anyways, I wanted to think of some things that make me happy so I made a list below:

  • quality time with people (consistently...I think consistency in any friendship is important)
  • walking by the ocean at my favorite spot in OC
  • seeing my parents happy
  • date night
  • getting dressed up
  • reading a good article or blog post
  • shopping (obv)
  • bubble bath
  • drinking wine in an outdoor patio sitting by the fire (specific enough?)
  • yoga (which I really miss so much and have been so sad I have not gone in over a year. I injured my neck (bulged discs) and working out has been a huge missing happy component that I have not been able to incorporate in my life.
  • travel (needing a getaway! Where should I go?)
  • my moms cooking
  • words of affirmation from the ones I love
  • feeling supported by family and friends
  • Flowers for any occasion (not just from your S/O either. I love when my dad brings Orchids arrangements and peonies to my mom and I)
  • seeing a butterfly or little birdie (makes me think my brother is visiting me)

Genuinely interested in hearing the things that make you happy! Send me an email!

PS this gorgeous black leather dress was the perfect pick me up dress on my gloomnation day! Nothing a stylish Michael Stars dress and a good pair of heels cant fix!

NYC Streetstyle: Rugged Chic

Walking through the Meatpacking District today in some cute distressed jeans, silky and cool tops to bear the heat and these amazing city approved chunky heels.

I tend to come through the Meatpacking District to grab lunch or dinner with the girls. Love grabbing dinner here because it is an easy walk back to the house and there are some great bars in the area.

Some of my favorites:

Lunch:

Los Tacos- super cheap and amazing. Try not to go at lunch hour because the line is crazy. I promise you, some of the best tacos you will try in your lifetime! It is located in the Chelsea Market. Sounds commercial, but I swear it is amazing!

Fig and Olive- total NYC staple that is great for a business lunch or to meet a bf

Dinner:

La Sirena- perfect date night or girls night dinner spot. Close to the Standard Hotel.

Catch- my favorite place as you can have dinner and then go up to the roof for a little dancing later :)

Hope you enjoyed some of my quick reccos! Have a fabulous day loves.

Street Style: High Approachable Fashion

We all view high fashion as something untouchable, unapproachable and unaffordable. But there are so many ways you can mix and match approachable items with some high fashion staples and get a killer Italian Vogue look straight from an editorial. Just a little friendlier on your wallet.

I strive to mix high and mid priced items as extremely low priced items ("fast-fashion" pieces) , will go quickly out of style or will diminish after a couple times in the wash. Try going after brands that have stood a true test of time and that you will know the item you purchase could be worn multiple times in different ways.

A brand that is a go-to for me is Banana Republic, as I can find some great basics, a staple blazer, nice shoes and a killer dress and not completely cry at the price tag. My suggestion is for you to find a brand that speaks to your inner fashion soul and go get yourself a few fiery pieces to upgrade your closet.

For my look here I took a Banana Republic sheer blouse that was black and white print and shook it up a bit with a loud opposite patterned blazer by a designer I love, Prabal Garung. I wore some leather shorts as my solid color for the piece and the other solid, yet LOUD color I chose, were these fuchsia heels to match my blazer. I love how comfy the heels are, which make them perfect for the half a mile I usually walk to get over to the Meat Packing district for dinner and drinks at night! Let's just say, Carrie Bradshaw would have approved this look.

On that note, which Sex in the City character are you?

Street Chic Meets Beach

It feels so good to be home! Somehow I couldn't leave my street chic style in the NYC so I brought it to my beachy CA town. I paired a silky soft top with rugged leather pants. I paired it with feminine wavy wedges, a neutral colored Celine bag and of course, my favorite Celine sunnies! One extra accent I added was my metal bar necklace from Lydell NYC. I get a ton of compliments on that necklace anytime I wear it!

Nudes are My Favorite

I am always on the go. It can be a bit exhausting, but at the same time, I find stagnant things in life to be quite boring, so as I quickly become overwhelmed, I do a few breathing exercises to remind myself the importance of being resilient.

While we are on the topic of resilience, let's talk about the need to be resilient in this life. The one answer interviewers love hearing about a candidate is that they are "resilient in their efforts at work". So why just settle at work, why not just be resilient in general. Being resilient does not necessarily mean to be a workaholic. It means that you work hard at the tasks in front of you. Whether that be being a girl boss at the office, or being a complete girl boss at home and managing a husband, children and keeping the house in order. You can be resilient in your health practice as well! I try to do breathing exercises, meditation breaks and stretches every day to keep my mind and body happy. Try it ;) Treat yo self!

Alongside my resilience obsession, I am also resilient in my commitment to being fashion forward, yet not breaking the bank. Pictured here, I mixed fast fashion with a few pricier staple pieces that I wear over and over again. I absolutely love mixing whites and nudes, they look so polished when they are worn together in the right way. If you are terrified of white pants, go for a pair of khaki or beige trousers. But coming from someone who treks on the subway, just don't sit and you will be golden!

Day to Night in San Francisco

I love wearing pieces that I can take from the office to happy hour. My girlfriends call me the day  to night queen as I rarely have time to run home and change between meetings. Especially when I am at our headquarters in SF, it is a rarity when I can run back to my hotel room to change before running to dinner, so picking pieces that are versatile are super important to me.

This dress is perfect as it hugs the body in all the right places and it has sex appeal. To cool down the sex appeal during the day, you can wear a lightweight scarf around your neck and cover up your chest and you can pair it with a blazer. Since I work at a creative agency, I have the flexibility to wear leather coats to work (less formal), so I just paired mine with a leather coat to take me into the night!

What to Wear to a Meeting: Feminine Meets Bossy

When headed to meetings, I like to wear black pencil jeans and a cute blouse. I switched it up for this look and picked a white, crisp, peplum jacket and wore it like a top instead. I paired it with sassy lace up heels and my favorite Celine bag. This is the perfect go-to outfit for any meeting you have! You can also wear this straight from a meeting to happy hour with friends. Just wear a black silk tank under it and unzip the front of the jacket. Voila; day to night chic!

LA Street Style in Style Club LA

When I first started blogging, I had an opportunity to meet Hilary Hahn, the savvy founder of the fashion tech startup; The Style Club. Essentially her company is an online retailer of super cute and very trendy clothes. Think sporty chic when you think of The Style Club!

Their home office is based right in LA. Within the first year of kicking off she launched a huge collaboration with Sophie Tweed-Simmons and developed a pocket-friendly line for girls with curves. That is my goal when I am shopping, to find things to fit my petite, yet curvy body and let's just say, their line made it easy for ladies like us!

I got this pretty off the shoulder velvet dress from The Style Club, which is pretty dressy but can be toned down for day to night looks by pairing it with a denim jacket. I wear this denim jacket with everything these days. I find that it is perfect for night time when it cools down a bit! Since I am not the tallest, I picked these skinny strap heels that help to elongate my legs. Anything helps!
